This is something that no one wants to address but it now has a need. I am sorry if it offends any readers.

Since we uploaded this site, we have gotten several emails telling us that we had no right to get rid of slaughter houses. That our doing so caused needless suffering for animals that should have been humanely slaughtered.

That's a tough thing to respond to since we are not the people who closed the slaughter houses but we did not condone their practices in the first place.

Since, back in the 80s when I heard how inhumane the facilities were, and I'm sure have gotten no better in the 90s, I had always wanted to do something about them but really did not know what to do. Trying to make them more humane was the best idea but since I was warned not to make waves with them, and having a small child at that time, I did not make any waves at all. Actually I totally kept my mouth shut.

Since they have been closed down, there definitely are more suffering animals than before and now no place for them to go. Again, we did not condone the previous slaughtering practices. What are animal owners to do when they have no money for a veterinarian to euthanize their horse plus no place for the remains to go…. It is an expense that many cannot afford, especially with the economic stresses of today. Some people cannot feed their families and now cannot even give away their old and dying horses because there are so many in need of homes.

What to Do........

I wish we knew what to do but can only tell you what we have found out so far. The Florida Division of Animal Industry has this link to help the more equipped person deal with euthanasia of their animals. http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/pdffiles/VM/VM11400.pdf

We are still awaiting information about what help the average person can get who cannot deal with the taking of life of their beloved friend. When we know, you will know.
